Lent is here and life is full. We pause and wonder, where does the time go?
At Leadership Formation Partners (LFP) we are busy launching our formation program, Mission: Day By Day™. The first cohorts began in January and have just completed “An Invitation to the Sacred,” the first of nine six-week sessions. New cohorts begin in April. It is exciting to see the process unfold! As participants engage with new content, converse in small groups on the phone and in person and reflect with each other in the online community, they enjoy a supportive network that helps them deepen their connection with the tradition, mission and values. An organizational facilitator reports,
We had such an amazing group meeting today. The experience was electrifying. Your tasks are bringing us all closer together. The sharing was remarkable…We are steadily making progress toward a tighter knit community of mission-driven, ministry leaders. Thanks for the guidance and all the support.
The online community provides an elegantly simple interface that supports shared learning and healthy engagement. Response to this space has far exceeded our expectations. Participation posting and interaction is rich, thoughtful and frequent. Participants express a sense of being honored to be in the program. They share reflections about how the program has impacted them in some way as they discovered the “sacred in all things” during this session, while supporting one another along the way.
Next will be the first session evaluation. At LFP we are including some “employee engagement” questions in the survey. The Gallup organization asks twelve questions for employee engagement. As I reflect on these questions many of them, at least two thirds are integrated into well designed formation programs. The most obvious link is the question, “Does the mission / purpose of your company make you feel your job is important?”
Formation provides an opportunity to deepen our connection with tradition, mission and values. Formation is also an opportunity to learn and grow, to develop supportive relationships at work, to be affirmed and to encourage others, and to speak about important things in a safe place. The online community and other components of our program allow for a great deal of shared learning as well as relationships that support healthy engagement. In one brief six-week session participants speak of seeing each other beyond the program knowing they have a special bond.
LFP has been known to say that community is the “secret sauce” of not only the life of our religious sponsors, but the ongoing work of the healing ministry of Jesus. What the Gallup organization and our own experience tell us is that we all seek to belong and to contribute to a purpose greater than ourselves. We are the community of committed persons who work in Catholic healthcare to reveal God’s love with all those we meet day by day. That is our Mission: Day by Day™.
We are passionate about helping bring formation deeper and wider into our organizations and would love a chance to talk with you about the needs of your community.
